Southeast Michigan: Metro Detroit Christmas Events
Metro Detroit has the most Christmas events in Michigan. Here’s what I return to every year.
Wayne County Lightfest
- 📍 Where: Hines Park, 7651 N Merriman Rd, Westland
- 📅 When: November 14, 2025 – January 1, 2026 (nightly)
- 💵 Cost: $5 per car
Michigan’s biggest drive-through light show. Over 100,000 lights along 4.5 miles create nearly 50 animated scenes. I’ve been coming here for years—it never gets old.
💡 My Tip: Go weeknights to skip lines. Tune to 88.1 FM for music. The “12 Days of Christmas” tunnel is the best part.

Detroit Zoo Wild Lights
- 📍 Where: 8450 W 10 Mile Rd, Royal Oak
- 📅 When: November 28 – December 31, 2025 (closed 12/24-25)
- 💵 Cost: $18-23 (varies by date)
Five million LED lights transform the zoo. Nearly 300 giant illuminated animal sculptures make this unlike any other light display. The giant polar bears are my favorite.
💡 My Tip: Weeknights cost less. Arrive at 5:30 PM opening to beat crowds. Best hot chocolate is at Arctic Ring of Life.

Greenfield Village Holiday Nights
- 📍 Where: 20900 Oakwood Blvd, Dearborn
- 📅 When: Select evenings November 28 – December 29, 2025
- 💵 Cost: $30 adults, $22.50 youth
Eighty acres of American history become a living Christmas card. Carolers in period costume, Model T rides through snow, authentic 1800s decorations in every historic home. This one’s special.
💡 My Tip: Book early—weekends sell out. Carriage rides have shortest waits right at 5:30 PM opening.

Campus Martius Tree & Ice Skating
- 📍 Where: 800 Woodward Ave, Detroit
- 📅 When: November 22, 2025 – March 2, 2026
- 💵 Cost: FREE to visit; skating $9 adults, $5 kids
Detroit’s holiday heart. The 60-foot Christmas tree and outdoor rink create that classic city Christmas feeling. I love the buzz of downtown around you while you skate.
Walk two blocks to Eastern Market for Sunday Holiday Markets in December.

Meadowbrook Hall
- 📍 Where: 350 Estate Dr, Rochester
- 📅 When: November 22 – December 30, 2025
- 💵 Cost: Holiday Walk $20-25; Winter Wonder Lights $25 per car
Fifty Christmas trees fill this 110-room mansion. Each room styled in 1920s grandeur. The 10-foot poinsettia tree in the Great Hall stops everyone.
💡 My Tip: Do both—mansion tour in late afternoon (last tour 4 PM), then Wonder Lights at 5:30 PM. Chimney Tops Cafe has excellent cocoa.

My favorite Michigan Christmas tradition in Grand Rapids. Half a million lights illuminate the gardens. Forty-six cultural displays show how different countries celebrate. The indoor tropical conservatory is warm even when it’s snowing outside.
