If you’re looking for a fun way to kick off your holiday shopping, Michigan Christmas markets are where it’s at. I love browsing unique handmade gifts, sipping hot cocoa, and soaking in the festive atmosphere – it’s one of my favorite holiday traditions! These markets make shopping feel less like a chore and more like a memory-making experience with family and friends.

From European-style outdoor markets to cozy indoor bazaars, Michigan offers some of the best Christmas markets in the Midwest. I’ve rounded up 20+ markets across the state for 2025, organized by region so you can easily find one near you. Trust me, these markets beat Black Friday madness any day!

Southeast Michigan Christmas Markets

Downtown Detroit Markets – Cadillac Lodge

When: November 7, 2024 – January 5, 2025
Hours: Wed/Thu/Sun 11am-8pm; Fri/Sat 11am-11pm
Where: Cadillac Square, Downtown Detroit

This is one of my favorite Christmas markets in Detroit! With 18 local vendors, the Downtown Detroit Market offers Michigan-made clothing, home décor, books, toys, and more. The best part? You can lounge by the fire on comfy couches while sipping cocktails, hot cocoa, or cider. Holiday lights fill the square, including a gorgeous Christmas tree. The atmosphere is magical on cold winter nights!

Detroit Eastern Market Holiday Markets

When: Tuesday 11/26; Sundays 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, 12/22; Saturday 12/21 (6am-1pm)
Where: 2934 Russell Street, Detroit

In addition to the year-round Saturday Market, Eastern Market hosts special holiday markets perfect for both food shopping and gift buying. The Tuesday market focuses on food vendors – ideal for stocking up on holiday meal ingredients. Sunday markets feature Michigan-made gifts including clothing, art, jewelry, and beauty products. It’s all FREE and welcomes all ages!

Kris Kringle Market – Rochester

When: December 6-7, 2025
Hours: Friday 4-10pm; Saturday noon-10pm
Where: Downtown Rochester

Inspired by 700-year-old European Christmas markets, the Kris Kringle Market is a don’t-miss event in Southeast Michigan! You’ll find one-of-a-kind shopping, specialty foods, fresh greens and wreaths, caroling, live music, a gingerbread village, s’mores stations, visits with Santa, and a warming tent serving food, beer, and hot spiced wine.

KindleFest – Ann Arbor

When: December 6, 2025
Where: Kerrytown District, Ann Arbor

Open all day and into the night, KindleFest features multiple vendors, restaurants, and local artisans offering everything from traditional German Christmas foods to handcrafted treasures. Holiday lights shine bright as musicians stroll around and kids await Santa’s arrival. Fire pits for s’mores and keeping warm are scattered throughout, plus there’s a Kid Zone with crafts and entertainment.

Wyandotte Holiday Market

When: November 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Where: Biddle Avenue, Downtown Wyandotte

This market coincides with Wyandotte’s Christmas Parade – the largest holiday parade in Michigan’s downriver area! It’s the perfect combo: watch the parade, then shop at local vendors lining the downtown streets.

Wayne Open-Air Christmas Market

When: November 22-24, 2025
Hours: 11am-7pm
Where: 344 Wayne Rd, Wayne

This three-day festival happens under a heated tent featuring dance performances, quartets, and family shopping. Take free photos with Santa, explore ice sculptures, and enjoy plenty of shopping, food, and drinks. Christmas classics play from concert performers throughout the weekend. Perfect for starting a new family tradition!

West Michigan Christmas Markets

Holland Kerstmarkt

When: November 23; Fridays & Saturdays 11/29-12/21
Where: 150 W. 8th Street, Downtown Holland

With Holland’s Dutch heritage, “Kerstmarkt” (Dutch for “Christmas market”) is a magical experience you don’t want to miss! This outdoor market features holiday gifts, amazing food, and local art. Since 1997, the City of Holland has been putting on this beloved market, and it’s become so popular that visitors come from as far as Texas!

EXPERT TIP: We bought our favorite pair of hand-knit mittens at Kerstmarkt years ago and they’re still like new! The quality of handmade goods here is exceptional.

Christkindl Markt – Grand Rapids

When: November/December 2025 (check website for exact dates)
Where: Downtown Grand Rapids

Styled after a traditional European Christmas market, Grand Rapids’ Christkindl Markt offers memorable experiences, live entertainment, and plenty of vendors. You’ll find handmade gifts, holiday lights and décor, hot seasonal beverages, Santa Claus, caroling, and unique winter fun like curling sheet rentals!

Holiday Glow & Christmas Market – Brighton

When: November 23, 2025
Hours: 1pm-7pm
Where: Main Street, Downtown Brighton

The Holiday Glow is perfect for families! Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, take photos with reindeer, enjoy a holiday petting zoo, ride miniature Christmas trains, watch performances from local artists, and of course, shop for unique gifts. Delicious holiday snacks and drinks keep everyone warm!

Christmas Through Lowell

When: November 2025 (typically mid-November)
Where: Downtown Lowell

For more than 30 years, this market has invited visitors to a holiday shopping extravaganza! With more than 350 crafters and artists, you’ll find unique handmade Christmas treasures, beautiful décor, leather goods, hand-knitted crafts, antiques, and art. This is hands-down one of Michigan’s largest and best markets!

Mistletoe Market Gala – South Haven

When: November 23; December 4-8; December 11-15, 2025
Where: South Haven Center for the Arts, 600 Phoenix Street

Begin your holiday shopping in one of my favorite Michigan beach towns, South Haven! Local artists display jewelry, paintings, photography, and more at this holiday market benefiting the South Haven Center for the Arts.

Northern Michigan Christmas Markets

Merry Marketplace – Traverse City

When: Saturdays 11am-6pm; Sundays 10am-3pm (November 9 – December 14)
Where: Crooked Tree Arts Center, Traverse City

Merry Makers Marketplace is a festive holiday art fair featuring original and handcrafted gifts! Browse and shop 30 artists and artisans while enjoying complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies in wonderful Traverse City.

Christmas at Dennos Museum Center

When: November 1-2, 2025
Where: Northwestern Michigan College Campus, 1410 College Dr, Traverse City

Engage with over 30 artists, shop unique gifts and fine art, and stroll through museum exhibits during these FREE museum days! From traditional paintings to eye-catching ceramics and accessories made from textiles, metals, and glass, there’s truly a gift for everyone.

Glen Arbor Holiday Marketplace

When: November 29-30, 2025
Where: Glen Arbor Township Hall, 6394 W Western Ave

Holiday shopping in the middle of the Sleeping Bear Dunes? Yes, please! Beautiful Glen Arbor is the perfect place to shop during the Holiday Marketplace. Watch the festive tree lighting while munching on donuts from the iconic Art’s Tavern, one of my favorite Glen Arbor restaurants. More than 24 artisans feature handcrafted, locally-made goods. Visit with Santa on Saturday from 11:30-1:00!

Harbor Springs Market at the Museum

When: November 23, 2025
Hours: 9am-1pm
Where: Harbor Springs Historical Museum, 349 E. Main Street

The Market at the Museum is perfect for stocking up on local foods, gifts, and artisan goods. The Historical Society has a booth where kids can create holiday crafts!

Marquette Holiday Market

When: Saturdays in December (12/6, 12/13, 12/20)
Where: Marquette Commons

Marquette’s weekly market comes alive with Christmas spirit during the holidays! Everything is made or grown by those selling it – you’ll find fresh-cut Christmas trees, homemade soaps, jewelry, and perfect gifts!

Frankenmuth Christmas guide

Frankenmuth ChristKindlMarkt

When: Select weekends November 29 – December 15, 2025
Hours: Fri/Sat 11am-8pm; Sun 11am-4pm
Where: Frankenmuth Farmers Market, 534 North Main Street

This Christmas market is modeled after those held in Frankenmuth’s sister region of Germany, bringing authentic European Christmas market magic to Michigan! It’s full of artisans selling handmade gifts and goods, German Christmas foods, hot spiced wine, and festive entertainment.

Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland

When: Open year-round (361 days!)
Where: 25 Christmas Ln, Frankenmuth

While not technically a market, the “Largest Christmas Store in the World” is a must-visit! With thousands of ornaments, holiday decorations, and collectibles spread across 45 acres, this store has been part of Frankenmuth history since 1945. Kids will have a blast walking around the magical store while you shop!

Village of Ashley Country Christmas

When: Select weekends late November – mid-December
Where: Downtown Ashley, Mid-Michigan

The entire Village of Ashley is a living, breathing Christmas market! Stroll brightly decorated downtown streets, take horse-drawn wagon rides, watch Michigan’s “Polar Express” pull into town, visit Santa, and shop for unique Christmas gifts. It’s like stepping into a Hallmark movie!

Christmas in the Village – Escanaba

When: December 6-7, 2025
Hours: 11am-7pm
Where: Antique Village, U.P. State Fairgrounds

The Christmas Market at Antique Village is delightfully festive with actual chestnuts roasting on an open fire! You’ll find unique handcrafted items from local artisans, holiday greenery, carols playing, and Santa loves visiting Escanaba!

Battle Creek Winter Wanderland Holiday Bazaar

When: December 2025 (check website for dates)
Where: Kellogg Arena, Battle Creek

The Holiday Night Bazaar is a festive fusion of vendors inside Kellogg Arena, plus fun kids activities like meeting Santa and indoor snowball fighting!
