Now this is a pure Michigan New Year’s Eve celebration! Ring in the New Year in Downtown Sault Ste. Marie and celebrate in the Soo until the anchor drops at midnight! Join the celebration near the corner of Ashmun Street and Portage Ave to countdown to 2026.

Stick around after 12:01 a.m. for the great celebrations at downtown bars.

New Year’s Eve Celebration at Ski Brule – Iron River

I love to ski in Michigan, and this is one of my favorite ways to ring in the New Year: celebrating after spending a day on the slopes!

Spend New Year’s Eve on the ski slopes as the holiday events wind down. One of the top New Year’s Eve parties in Michigan is held at this Upper Peninsula ski resort and features a full dinner with turkey, prime rib, sliced ham, and more, as well as music and dancing.

You’ll also find fun outdoor activities to ring in 2026 like skiing, Whitewater Snow Tubing, and a torchlight parade and fireworks, too. Iron River is about an hour northwest of Iron Mountain, and just a short drive away from Crystal Falls, MI.

Marquette NYE Ball Drop Bash – Marquette

Every time the year turns new, folk from all around the Upper Peninsula gather in Marquette MI to celebrate together and watch the ball drop on December 31.

During this time the intersection of Washington and Front Street becomes a hub of holiday cheer, community engagement, and unbridled excitement for what the future holds. Watch with the crowd as the illuminated ball drops from the historic Savings Bank Building at the stroke of midnight. Don’t miss the Holiday Lasers on the Ore Dock for an unforgettable finale to 2025!

Houghton NYE Chook Drop – Houghton

Ring in 2026 on Houghton’s downtown pier with a Yooper-style Chook Drop overlooking the Portage Canal. What’s a chook? It’s an iconic Yooper fleece winter cap! Enjoy live music by Mr. Cesar & the Lucha Tones, warm up by the fire, and countdown to midnight Keweenaw-style with friends and family.

Pro Tip: There’s an “early drop” at 6:30 p.m. — perfect for families with young children who can’t stay up until midnight!

Great Turtle Drop on Mackinac Island

Gather on Mackinac Island’s Main Street as the Great Turtle — a 70-pound green, light-covered, fiberglass turtle named “Norton” — is dropped to the ground to help ring in 2026. This is one of my favorite NYE annual events!

If you’ve never been to Mackinac Island in the winter, it’s a true winter wonderland. Surrounded by the beautiful blue Lake Huron, the snow-covered island is a perfect spot for a Michigan winter getaway. Take the ferry from St. Ignace — the ferry in Mackinaw City does not operate in the winter.

Treetops Resort New Year’s Eve Parties – Gaylord

CherryT Ball Drop – Traverse City

If you can’t make it to Times Square, there’s no better place to be than the Traverse City Cherry Drop. Now in its 17th year, this beloved celebration draws crowds of 10,000-12,000 people!

As the Cherry Capital of the world should, the ball that is dropped is not so much a ball as much as it is a massive, 600-pound illuminated cherry, which itself is quite the sight to behold. After midnight, enjoy a spectacle of fireworks as you wrap up a party — and a year — to remember.

Pro Tip: The North Bar hosts an exclusive rooftop celebration with a $30 entry fee starting at 9 p.m. — perfect for a great view of the cherry drop! Can’t make it? The event is live-streamed by UpNorthLive.

New Year’s Eve at Crystal Mountain – Thompsonville

This family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. at Nub’s Nob. Head to the bottom of the Green Lift and watch as the Nub’s Nob Ski Patrol and the Winter Sports School skiers make runs down Smokey with flares in hand, creating a beautiful light display.

Free of charge — no ticket or season passes required!

The Highlands Torch Light Parade and Fireworks – Harbor Springs

Packed with energy and plenty of food and drinks, it’s crazy to think that Ludington’s New Year’s Eve ball drop event is free — but it is! Now in its 16th year, this celebration has been ranked among the Top 5 ball drops in the United States.

This is more than just a New Year’s Eve ball drop — it’s an end-of-the-year experience complete with a firework show over downtown Ludington just after midnight. The ball is six feet, five inches in diameter and lit by 6,000 LED lights — West Michigan’s biggest! Enjoy music, beer garden with commemorative light-up glasses, and FREE safe rides and towing until 3 a.m.

New Year’s Eve At The Crooked Tree Arts Center – Petoskey

Count on Crooked Tree Arts Center to hold one of the top family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations in northern Michigan. Bundle up and head to downtown Petoskey for the fun-for-all-ages New Year’s Eve celebration in the street outside of the Library and Crooked Tree Arts Center.

This event is alcohol-free and designed for all ages. There will be music, dancing, food, coffee, cocoa, and the annual ball drop. Visit the Library at the s’more tent for s’more kits to use with the fire pits!
