Or maybe you’re hoping for a chance to see the tulips in Holland without the crowds? You’re not alone. Every spring, millions of visitor’s flock to southwest Michigan to see the tulips in Holland, and they are never dissappointed.
This charming city is set on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa (where author Frank L. Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz).
Rich with Dutch heritage, the city of Holland’s tulips are renowned and should be at the top of any traveler’s Michigan bucket list.
It is estimated that the Holland Michigan tulips will start blooming around April 17, 2023, and finish some time close to May 25, 2023.

Holland Michigan’s Famous Tulips
You’ve most likely heard of the Holland Tulip Time Festival, one of the top flower festivals in the country, an annual event held every spring.
That’s when more than six million tulips come to life during a week-long celebration featuring everything from Dutch dances, tulip walking tours, and a tulip time parade to a tulip immersion garden where you can surround yourself in the beauty of these brightly colored flowers.
But there are other ways to see the beautiful tulips, too.
If you miss the Tulip Festival in Holland, which is scheduled for May 6 – 14, 2023, don’t despair. Spring always means tulip time In Holland’s Centennial Park, Riverview Park and Kollen Park.
You can also see tulips in bloom all through spring on the tulip farms, including Windmill Island Gardens and the Veldheer Tulip Gardens. Nelis’ Dutch Village, a Dutch-themed amusement park.

Where to See Tulips in Holland Michigan
Holland Michigan Tulip Festival
The Holland Tulip Festival takes place in downtown Holland and a surrounding four-mile radius.
Michigan’s Holland Tulip Festival is a top festival in Michigan, a time when the entire Holland area comes alive with Dutch spirit and brightly colored flowers.
You’ll find a mix of daily events as well as special activities including a Tulip Time Run, an artisan market and even a tulip time photo walk where professional photographers share tips for capturing the stunning beauty of the tulips with your camera.
There is so much to do at the Tulip Time Festival in Michigan, including a Tulip Time Quilt Show and a carnival with rides and a midway. You’ll find food trucks, and more great Mchigan restaurants down Eighth Street and throughout the town.
My favorite thing to do at the Tulip Festival? I love driving Tulip Lane, where you can follow 12 miles of tulips planted along neighborhood streets.

Holland Parks Where You Can See Tulips
Centennial Park
250 Central Ave, Holland, MI 49423
This almost six-acre park in downtown is located at 10th Street and River Avenue and features a Victorian gazebo, a 20-foot rock fountain, a Veterans memorial and tons of beautifully manicured gardens to stroll. Follow the winding paths through the park to take in thousands of vibrant tulips blooming in springtime.
Kollen Park
240 Kollen Park Drive Holland, MI 49423
You’ll find a massive display of tulips at this 24-acre park in the shores of Lake Macatawa, as well as a boat launch for fishing and boating, picnic areas, and playgrounds for children. The park also features a large amphitheater that hosts concerts and other events throughout the year.
Two highlights here are the Queretaro Fountain, gift to the city of Holland from their sister city of Queretaro, Mexico, and the Immigrant Statue, a gift from the people of Drenthe in the Netherlands.
Window on the Waterfront Park

You’ll find more than 100,000 tulips blooming throughout the spring at this 30-acre park on the shores of Lake Macatawa featuring many walking and biking paths, a baseball field and more.

Windmill Island Gardens

Both you and the kids will love visiting this 36-acre park. It features more than 100,000 tulips blooming in the gardens, a carousel and guides in Dutch costume, too.
Windmill Island Gardens is home to De Zwaan, a 250-year-old Dutch windmill which is one of the only authentic, working Dutch windmills in the United States. The windmill was shipped from the Netherlands to Holland, Michigan in 1964 as a symbol of the area’s Dutch heritage.
In addition to the windmill, Windmill Island Gardens also features manicured gardens, and a delftware factory where visitors can watch craftsmen create the famous blue and white pottery. There’s a children’s playground.
Visitors can take a guided tour of the authentic Dutch windmill and learn about its history and inner workings or stroll through the gardens and enjoy the tulips and other flowers. There is an admission fee, please check our guide to Windmill Island Gardens for more information.
Nelis’ Dutch Village

This family-owned and operated theme park celebrates the Dutch heritage and culture in a big way. The park is modeled after a traditional Dutch village, and it features a variety of attractions and activities that showcase Dutch traditions, history, and architecture.
Visitors to Nelis’ Dutch Village can take a guided tour of the village, which includes demonstrations of traditional Dutch crafts such as wooden shoe carving, cheese making, and candle making.
The park also has a petting zoo, where visitors can interact with animals such as goats, sheep, and llamas. Additionally, there are various rides and activities for children, including a Ferris wheel, carousel, and miniature golf course.
One of the highlights of Nelis’ Dutch Village is the Klompen Dance performance, which showcases traditional Dutch wooden shoe dancing. Visitors can also sample Dutch cuisine at the park’s restaurant, which offers dishes such as Dutch pea soup, stroopwafels, and poffertjes.

Veldheer Tulip Gardens

Late April through May is the perfect time to visit Veldheers tulip farm, where you can walk thorough more than 5.5 million tulips ablaze with color.
This is a must -visit if you are a gardener, or just simply love to take in the colors. In addition to the tulips, you’ll also see 50,000 daffodils, 10,000 hyacinths and 20,000 crocus plants in bloom. The gardens have a shop where you can purchase tulip bulbs, gardening tools, and other Dutch-themed souvenirs.
See a Traditional Dutch Windmill
The gardens feature a Dutch windmill, which is a replica of the kind of windmills found in the Netherlands. You can take a tour of the windmill and learn about its history.
Visit the Wooden Shoe Factory
After you’ve toured the garden and picked up some plants of your own, head over to the DeKlomp Wooden Shoe and Delft Factory, where you can watch an authentic Dutch wooden shoe carving machine and pick up some wooden shoes for a souvenir. The Delft factory produces handmade pottery in the Delft style. You can watch the artisans at work and purchase pottery to take home.
Holland is located in Ottawa County in west Michigan. It is located 30 minutes west of Grand Rapids Michigan. Holland is a three-hour drive from Detroit in southeast Michigan; and a three-hour drive from Traverse City in northern Michigan.
