If you’re in town on a Saturday, swing by the farmers market for local produce, homemade jams, and some of the best baked goods around.

East Tawas
East Tawas is just a stone’s throw from Tawas City, but it has its own unique charm. The downtown is super walkable and packed with cute shops, cafes, and a classic old-school movie theater. I always make time for a stroll out on the East Tawas State Dock—the view of the bay is stunning, especially at sunset.
If you’re into the outdoors, Tawas Point State Park is nearby, and the sandy beaches are perfect for swimming or just lounging with a book. Don’t be surprised if you spot a few kiteboarders catching the wind!

Oscoda is a hidden gem for anyone who loves the outdoors. The beaches are wide and sandy, and the Au Sable River is a dream for kayaking or tubing. I always recommend taking a drive along the River Road Scenic Byway—there are plenty of overlooks and hiking trails, plus the Lumberman’s Monument is a must-see. There is a lot of of Oscoda camping by the AuSable, too.
