Michigan Haunted Houses 2026: Best Scares by Region
Last updated: October 2026
If you’re like me, visiting haunted houses in Michigan is a fall tradition that never gets old. From a haunted car ferry in Manistee to a four-story scream factory in Pontiac, there’s a terrifying experience in every corner of the state.

This 2026 guide covers Michigan’s best haunted houses, haunted trails, haunted corn mazes and hayrides, organized by region and checked against this season’s schedules, with an interactive map and picks by scare level so you can match the night to your group.
What’s new for 2026: Terrorfied Forest has moved to a new home in Pinckney, Glenlore Trails swapped FATE for a carnival-themed walk called CarnEvil 2, and Abandoned Acres Farm in Sparta is closed this season, with plans to return at a new location in 2027. Exit 13 in Mount Morris billed 2023 as its final season, so it’s off the list.
Pro-Tip: Popular nights sell out, so buy tickets online in advance and check each attraction’s official site or Facebook for weather updates and policy changes.

Haunted Places in Michigan
There are dozens of haunted houses in Michigan, and competition is stiff for the title of “Michigan’s best haunted house.” If you’re looking for some real haunted places in Michigan, use our Guide to the Most Haunted Places in Michigan.
Here’s how I’d choose. If your group wants the biggest, most polished scares, stick with the full-scale haunts like Erebus, Eloise Asylum and the Niles Scream Park, and buy a fast pass on a Saturday. If you’d rather be outside, a haunted forest or corn maze is often scarier than a building, because there are no walls telling you where the next scare is coming from. And if you have younger kids along, pick one of the lights-on or family-fun options and save the big haunts for a grown-ups’ night.
Quick Picks by Scare Level
- Bravest of the brave: Erebus in Pontiac and Eloise Asylum in Westland, the two metro Detroit names that come up every year.
- A whole night out: Niles Scream Park, Scarefest Scream Park or Wiard’s Night Terrors, with several attractions on one ticket.
- Outdoor scares: Terrorfied Forest’s 1.5-mile trail in Pinckney or Deranged Haunt’s five acres of woods in Romulus.
- Haunted corn maze: New Salem near Grand Rapids or the Slaughterhouse Adventure in Fowlerville.
- Families with younger kids: Glenlore Trails’ CarnEvil 2, Spooky Trails or Haunted Garage Productions.
- Something different: Manistee’s Ghost Ship, aboard a 1931 car ferry that’s now a National Historic Landmark.

Haunted Corn Mazes and Hayrides in Michigan
Every fall, I try to visit at least one haunted corn maze in Michigan, and let me tell you, they’re not for the faint of heart! If you love haunted houses but want an outdoor twist, a haunted corn maze or hayride might be even scarier. The crunch of leaves underfoot, the dark Michigan night sky, and the sound of something (or someone) moving in the corn make these attractions unforgettable.

Grab a friend (or two, because trust me, you don’t want to go alone). These are the best haunted mazes and hayrides on this list, and you’ll find the details for each one in its region above:
- New Salem in Dorr: a haunted corn maze plus two Witch’s Woods trails, close to Grand Rapids.
- Field of Screams at the Slaughterhouse Adventure in Fowlerville: clowns, chainsaws and the Keeper of the Corn.
- Animosity Corn Maze at Terror on 27 in Ashley: no straight path, so getting lost is guaranteed.
- Corn Maze of Fear and Hayride of Despair at Past Tense in Lapeer: make a night of both.
- Hayride of the Lost at Wiard’s Night Terrors in Ypsilanti: haunted scarecrows in the fields, then cider and donuts at the orchard.
- Scarefest Scream Park in Lenox: a haunted hayride and a terror corn maze on the same night.
- Spooky Trails in Swartz Creek: a haunted corn field and straw maze scaled for families.

🎃 Family-Friendly Haunted Attractions
- Glenlore Trails (CarnEvil 2) — Commerce Twp
- Haunted Garage Productions — Grosse Pointe Farms
- Spooky Trails — Swartz Creek
- The Haunt’s Kids Haunt (Oct. 25) — Wyoming
- Spookyland at Blake’s Big Apple — Armada
All feature lighter scares, creative lighting and Halloween fun without nightmares.
Tips for Visiting Michigan Haunted Attractions
- 🌙 Go at night for the full scare factor.
- 👟 Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes (you’ll be running, and the outdoor trails are uneven).
- 🎟 Buy tickets early, because October weekends sell out fast, and fast passes go first.
- 🍩 Don’t skip the cider and donuts (fuel for surviving the scares).
Here’s what I’d do for Halloween week: pick a Thursday or Sunday if your haunt is open, because lines are shorter than on Friday and Saturday, and save Halloween night itself for a haunt that’s actually open late on Oct. 31, like Hush, Rotten Manor or New Salem.
The Michigan Traveler
Every fall I send out the Halloween weekend picks worth the drive, from family-friendly haunts to the ones I’d only recommend to my bravest friends, in The Michigan Traveler. Come along, and bring a friend who screams louder than you.
