Best Places for Proposals in Northern Michigan
Chateau Chantal Winery and Hotel
15900 Rue Devin, Traverse City, MI 49686
Chateau Chantal is an elegant yet rustic vineyard sitting on 65 acres on the Old Mission Peninsula, overlooking the East Arm Grand Traverse Bay.
You can spend a week or just a night at this top Traverse City winery, but I recommend spending enough time so you can peruse the shops of downtown Traverse City before attending the wine tasting events or cooking classes at the winery in the evening.

Mackinac Island
Mackinac Island is possibly the most famous and most iconic place in Michigan, and for very good reason. There are no motor vehicles permitted on the island, so the only way to get around is by foot, bike, or horse drawn carriage.
The romantic 1980 film, “Somewhere in Time,” was shot at the Grand Hotel on the island, and the charming and lovey-dovey feeling is still palpable. The shops, the shop owners, and the sights are all pieces of a beautiful picture of Mackinac Island. Any couple would be lucky to get engaged on the island.
Best Places to Get Engaged in West Michigan
Castle in the Country Bed and Breakfast Inn
340 M-40 South, Allegan, MI 49010
South of Allegan, this charming Queen Ann style B&B is situated on 65 acres of land between Emerson Lake and Minkler Lake. The suites have plenty of modern-day amenities like Wi-Fi, whirlpool tubs, and more. You can even speak to the owner to pick a room that has a secluded patio and fireplaces, perfect for cozy evenings with your partner.
You can spend all weekend on the property, having a romantic and secluded trip, enjoying the on site spa, trails, kayaks, paddle boats, and snowshoes.
PrairieSide Suites Luxury Bed & Breakfast
3180 Washington Ave SW, Grandville, MI 49418
If you’re looking for a secluded B&B experience without driving to the country, look no farther than PrairieSide Suites in Grand Rapids. The cozy house has luxurious rooms with all kinds of romantic amenities like couples’ massages, champagne, and other romance-filled packages.

Amazing Proposal Places in Southwest Michigan
New Buffalo
This small, idyllic town in southwest Michigan is perfect for the people who want a couple’s retreat without having to fly out of state. New Buffalo has everything that a weekend getaway should have, including cozy B&Bs, sailing excursions, wine tours, lake views, and more.
The Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail begins just outside of New Buffalo, and the wine connoisseurs have left their mark on the little town. Along with all of the things listed here, New Buffalo also has a certain vibe that can’t be described by just listing the attractions available there. You’ve got to go and see for yourself, but New Buffalo is a truly idyllic little town.
The Morris Estate
1997 Morris Dr, Niles, MI 49120
Although The Morris Estate is known as a beautiful wedding venue, most people don’t realize that it also had lodging options available. Their B&B is situated on 1000 acres on the St Joseph River and just outside of Niles. The Estate has several different lodging options available, from very farmhouse rustic to newly renovated and modern suites.
Depending on which room or cabin you pick you may be treated to vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, and whirlpool tubs. The food served and the B&B is amazing, and made fresh each day. You can also speak to the owners to add certain romantic perks like charcuterie trays, chilled champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries during your stay.

Best and Unique Places to Get Engaged in Mid-Michigan
The Historic Webster House
900 5th St, Bay City, MI 48708
Located in the heart of downtown Bay City, this historic B&B will surpass your expectations. The owners have cultivated packages perfect for anyone – including proposal packages – while also highlighting the history of the Webster House.
They even have mid-week packages for the economical couple. After you spend the day at their spa, be sure to ask the owners about different things to do in Bay City, like their festivals or the local theatre. This is also a great option for those who want to get out of the bigger cities but hope to avoid the more rustic, country style getaways.
The Canopy Walk at Dow Gardens
1809 Eastman Ave, Midland, MI 48640
Feel like you’re at the top of the world before, during AND after your marriage proposal as you soar among the tree tops at Dow Gardens in Midland, MI. With a length of 1,400 feet, it’s the longest canopy walk in the country, and it’s 40 feet above the ground.
Views from the canopy walk are simply unbeatable, with vistas of a forest pond from 25 feet above, a large cargo net among spruce trees also situated 25 feet high, and a lovely orchard viewing platform with a glass floor, meaning you can see straight down 40 feet to the ground. Not only will you have amazing memories, you’ll have awesome pictures, too!

Frankenmuth
Frankenmuth is more than just Michigan’s charming “Little Bavaria.” It’s also a picturesque little town comeplete with covered bridges, a quiet meandering river, horse-drawn carriages and cute hotels and shops lining the road.
If you visit at Christmas time, the beautiful setting is almost like your favorite romantic Hallmark movie has come to life. In fact, the popular Hallmark film,”A Christmas Movie Christmas” WAS filmed here in 2019.

Unique and Special Proposal Places in Michigan’s Thumb
The Cadillac House
5502 Main St, Lexington, MI 48450
Although you may not have heard of Lexington, that’s the point. This small harbor town is 20 miles north of Port Huron and it is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Detroit.
While you’re staying at this Inn, you’ll have access to their tavern’s delicious menu as well as the Hidden Cavern that guests are privy to. The surrounding area offers free Friday night concerts, and gorgeous sunrises on Lake Huron.
The Caseville Pier
Caseville, MI
Caseville is a rockin’ resort town all day long, all summer long, but once dusk comes, it’s a whole different story. That’s when the spectacular sunset show on Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay begins.
You’ll find some of the prettiest sunsets along the long pier located at Caseville County park in downtown Caseville. Watching the blazing fun sink with an orange mist into Lake Huron is a romantic setting that can’t be beat.

Best Places to Get Engaged in Southeast Michigan
Shinola Hotel
1400 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
If you are looking for a once in a lifetime hotel experience, then you’ve found it in the Shinola Hotel. This elegant, eclectic, high-end hotel is in downtown Detroit – within walking distance of all of the biggest and best Detroit attractions. These attractions include Ford Field, the Detroit Opera House, Fox Theatre, and the new restaurant from Eminem “Mom’s Spaghetti.”
When you’re not spending time at the hotel, you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from, but I recommend popping the question on Belle Isle. The island between the US and Canada may be small, but it is picture-perfect and a beautiful place to get engaged – plus, who wouldn’t want to be proposed to at Sunset Point?
Anchor Bay
Anchor Bay is the US side of Lake St Clair and it’s ideal for those young, watersport types. This area is known for fishing, yacht clubs, and spectacular views. If you go here in the warmer months, you can expect plenty of fun on boats, seaside grills, and the typical summer activities that we all know and love. But many people don’t realize that the bay is an ideal destination in the winter months as well.
When the bay is frozen over you can snowshoe, snowmobile, or cross-country ski from Harsens Island to Strawberry Island, and up the St Clair River. So, depending on your partner, Anchor Bay is a perfect place for a proposal either on a frozen lake or on a kayak in the summer – though we do recommend a fake ring if you’re on a kayak.

Unforgettable Places to Get Engaged in the Upper Peninsula
Isle Royale National Park
Out of everything on this list, my personal favorites are the two places in the UP. Michigan’s upper peninsula is a true getaway no matter where you go after crossing over the bridge, but the Isle Royale National Park is the perfect rustic wilderness escape.
To get to the island, which is actually closer to Canada than Michigan, you can either take a ferry (about 3 hours) or fly in on a seaplane. Once you arrive in the national park, you’ll immediately see why this is the most revisted national park in the US.
Even though this is one of my two favorite places listed here, I still am not a camper, so I always prefer to stay at the Rock Harbor Lodge. Whether you’re sleeping in a tent or in a room, you will definitely feel pleasantly unplugged and relaxed during your stay on the island. There are simply too many good options for where exactly to propose on the trails, so hike around for a day or two before finding your time to pop the question.
Keweenaw Castle
2611 Seven Mile Pt Rd, Allouez, MI 49805
My other favorite option on this list, Keweenaw Castle is a hidden gem in Copper County. You could easily stay here for a few nights before traveling to Isle Royale, or just spend all of your time exploring the area surrounding the castle.
Keweenaw Castle has four suites to choose from so you can pick your own unique experience. Although I recommend the Turret Suite, you’re guaranteed to love every option available. The UP is a special part of our state that any couple would be lucky to start their engagement in.
