Laketown Beach
6710 142nd Ave, Holland MI
Laketown Beach in Holland Michigan is a hidden gem of west Michigan. Smaller than most public beaches along this stretch of Lake Michigan, this Michigan beach offers some unforgettable views.
If you’re looking to explore some of Michigan’s best-kept secret beaches, you’ll want to add Laketown Beach to your bucket list.

About Laketown Beach
Set between two fabulous Michigan beach towns, Saugatuck and Holland, Laketown Beach is a perfect spot to get away from it all. It’s a quiet and serene setting, and it’s rarely crowded. That’s due in part to the beaches’ semi-remote location, over a towering sand dune.
You won’t find many amenities or a snack bar, but you will find a Port-A-Potty. Keep that in mind and pack a small cooler with snacks and drinks.
You’ll also find sparkling sand dunes leading to spectacular, sandy Lake Michigan beach. It’s a rustic, natural beach at its pure Michigan best: just sand and water, and it’s more than enough.

Beautiful Lake Michigan Beach
It’s a difficult walk over the dunes to get to the beach, so be sure everyone is up to the trip and able to make the climb there and back. The dunes are so high, it will have you thinking you’re in northern Michigan.
We’ll be honest: you have to work a little to get to this beach, but we promise it’s worth the trip.
PRO-TIP: This is one of the best spots to watch a sunset in Michigan. Bring a blanket and settle in to see the the sun slowly slip into Lake Michigan.

How to Get to Laketown Beach
You’ll travel through a residential neighborhood before you come to the small(ish) parking lot. From the small parking lot, it’s about 250 steps (over the dune) to the beach. Although there are steps, the sand often blows over the steps, so you’ll have to tread carefully. Remember you have to do it on the way back, too, so pack accordingly.
The view from the top of the dune is simply amazing. Be sure you have your camera, you’ll want to snap some pics.
PRO-TIP: There is a shortcut to beach (you’ll see the clearly-marked sign), but there are no steps here so it means trudging through the sand.
