Michigan Labor Day Festivals: Confirmed 2026 Dates & Map

Labor Day 2026 is Monday, September 7, and Michigan spends that weekend the way it always does — with dozens of festivals running at once, from a chicken wing eating contest in Lansing to a mountain bike race at the tip of the Keweenaw. Below they’re sorted by region so you can find the ones you can actually drive to.

I’ve covered Michigan’s holiday weekends for WDIV Detroit and FOX 17 West Michigan for years, and the thing I’ve learned is that the roundups you’ll find in late August are mostly copied from last year’s. Dates marked “confirmed” below are verified against the organizer’s own 2026 page. The rest run Labor Day weekend annually but post their schedules late — check before you drive. One festival that appeared on this list in past years isn’t happening anymore, and I’ve explained what happened to it rather than quietly deleting it.

Labor Day Festivals in Southeast Michigan

Michigan Lottery Arts, Beats & Eats — Royal Oak

September 4–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Royal Oak, Oakland County
The 29th annual, and the largest Labor Day festival in the state — around 200 musical acts across multiple stages, a juried fine art show, and dozens of restaurants. Admission is $10 online through midnight on September 2, then $15 from September 3 and at the gate. The $8 early-bird tier closed in mid-August, so if you haven’t bought yet, buying online still saves you five dollars over walking up. Hours run 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Labor Day Monday. Two bike corrals hold roughly 900 bikes if you’d rather not fight for parking, and chairs aren’t allowed in the national stage area. Arts, Beats & Eats posts its current ticket tiers and daily hours as they change.

Detroit Jazz Festival — Detroit

September 4–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Hart Plaza, Wayne County
The largest free jazz festival in the world, now in its 47th year, with more than 60 acts and attendance in the hundreds of thousands. Four days, no ticket, no cost. Two things changed for 2026. The downtown footprint is now fully consolidated at Hart Plaza — all three main stages in one place, rather than split between Hart Plaza and Campus Martius as in past years — with additional programming at the Detroit Jazz Hall inside the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State. And coolers are no longer allowed inside Hart Plaza, which is a change worth knowing before you pack. Hart Plaza opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and closes out 12:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Because Friday is an evening start, one-day visitors should aim for Saturday or Sunday. The festival publishes a stage-by-stage schedule for all four days.

Michigan State Fair — Novi

September 3–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Vibe Credit Union Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave, Novi, Oakland County
Rides, livestock, a farmers market, racing pigs, and grandstand entertainment. The venue changed names on January 1, 2026 — it’s the same building you knew as Suburban Collection Showplace, so don’t second-guess your GPS. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, then 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday through Labor Day Monday. The bundled ticket covering fair admission, an all-day carnival ride armband, and the monster truck shows runs $42 in advance online, which is the option most families end up wanting. Unaccompanied minors aren’t admitted, which catches families out every year — older kids can’t be dropped off. Check the fair’s day-by-day entertainment schedule before you pick a day.

Romeo Peach Festival — Romeo

September 3–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Romeo, Macomb County
The 95th anniversary, and one of the oldest festivals in Michigan. Carnival rides, craft shows, a parade, a car show, live music, and a Lions Club beer tent pouring more than 100 craft and imported beers. Nearby Westview Orchards runs peach sales and U-pick all weekend. The Romeo Peach Festival schedule lists parade and car show times separately, and they’re on different days.

Algonac Art Fair — Algonac

Labor Day weekend · Algonac Waterfront Park, 1130 St. Clair River Dr., Algonac, St. Clair County
A juried fair with around 100 artists set against the St. Clair River, plus music, food vendors, and a children’s creation station. Freighter traffic on the river is half the entertainment. The Algonac Art Fair confirms its hours closer to the weekend.

Franklin Art in the Village and Round Up — Franklin

Labor Day Monday · Downtown Franklin, Oakland County
A juried art show paired with an old-fashioned village carnival — inflatables, a parade, pony rides, an antique auto show, and a petting farm. The best Labor Day Monday option in Oakland County if you want something low-key, and it wraps by mid-afternoon, which makes it easy to pair with an early dinner before the drive home. The Franklin Community Association runs it.

Labor Day Luau — Ypsilanti

A campground celebration with hula dancing, entertainment, and a paper lantern release. Worth knowing about if you’re camping rather than driving home each night — and you’ll need a site at the Detroit–Ann Arbor KOA to attend.

Labor Day Festivals in West Michigan

Muskegon Polish Festival — Muskegon

September 4–5, 2026 (confirmed) · Hackley Park, 350 W. Webster Ave, Muskegon, Muskegon County
Polka bands, Polish heritage, and the food — pierogi, kielbasa, and everything that goes with them. This is a two-day festival, Friday and Saturday only, which trips people up because most of the weekend’s other events run through Monday. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days. Admission is $10 for anyone 21 and over; under 21 is free, as are military and first responders. Downtown Muskegon is a short drive from the Lake Michigan beaches, which makes this an easy half-day stop rather than a whole plan. The Muskegon Polish Festival posts its band schedule by day.

Belding Labor Day Celebration — Belding

September 4–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Belding, Ionia County
A classic four-day small-town Labor Day: parade, 5K and Fun Run, live music, a carnival, and a car show. This is the version of the holiday most Michiganders grew up with. The Belding Labor Day Celebration posts a full four-day schedule.

GrandCon Gaming Convention — Grand Rapids

Labor Day weekend · DeVos Place, Grand Rapids, Kent County
Board games, card games, and role-playing games across an all-ages convention floor. The rainy-day insurance policy on this list — entirely indoors, which matters more than people expect on a weekend when half the state is betting on the forecast. Blue Star Bridge Walk — Douglas

Labor Day Monday morning · South side of the Blue Star Bridge, Douglas, Allegan County
Twenty-five years of tradition and a deliberately silly one. Costumes, crazy hats, instruments, flags, and dogs are all encouraged, and the walk itself is short enough that anyone can do it. If you want the Michigan bridge-walk experience without the eight-hour drive north, this is it. Saugatuck and Douglas make a good base for the whole weekend.

A four-day small-town jubilee northeast of Grand Rapids, and one almost nobody outside Montcalm County knows about.

Michigan Chicken Wing Festival — Lansing

A Festival of Oddities — Charlotte

Labor Day weekend · Courthouse Square Museum, 100 W Lawrence Ave, Charlotte, Eaton County
Over 100 artists and makers in a marketplace built around the strange and handmade, plus food truck row and vintage carnival games benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. The most distinctive festival on this list. A Festival of Oddities lists its vendors in advance, which is worth a look if you’re driving any distance for it.

Michigan Bean Festival — Fairgrove

Labor Day weekend · Fairgrove, Tuscola County
A mud bog Saturday, a demolition derby and fireworks Sunday night, a parade and chicken barbecue Monday, plus a craft show, bingo, and the crowning of the Michigan Bean Queen. Free bean soup every day. This is small-town Michigan at its most itself.

Port Austin Art in the Park — Port Austin

Labor Day weekend · Gallup Park, 271 W State St, Port Austin, Huron County
A juried show at the tip of the Thumb covering glass, photography, wood, pottery, jewelry, ironwork, and fiber art. Combine it with a stop at Port Austin and Turnip Rock.

ThumbFest — Lexington

Labor Day weekend Saturday · Downtown Lexington, Sanilac County
A free acoustic music festival with 12 stages, jam sites, workshops, community sings, craft vendors, and food trucks. Lexington is the closest real beach town to metro Detroit, which makes this an easy day trip.

Minnehaha Brewhaha Music Festival — Arcadia

Local brews, food, and music on a scenic stretch of northwest Michigan between Manistee and Frankfort. Music Moves Me, the nonprofit behind it, puts the proceeds into local music education.

Manton Area Harvest Festival — Manton

September 4–7, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Manton, Wexford County
Music, food, and a parade through town. Twenty minutes north of Cadillac, and easy to fold into a Traverse City weekend.

Harrisville Harmony Festival — Harrisville

Labor Day weekend · Downtown Harrisville, Alcona County
The biggest weekend of the year in this Lake Huron town. Hundreds of barbershop singers and Sweet Adelines perform downtown alongside an arts and crafts fair with around 200 booths. If you’ve never heard four-part harmony echoing off storefronts a block from Lake Huron, it’s worth arranging your weekend around.

Tawas Bay Labor Day Arts and Craft Show — Tawas City

Over 130 booths of handmade work with Tawas Bay behind them. East Tawas is one of the last places on the Sunrise Coast that still has holiday-weekend lodging most years.

Torch Lake Labor Day Art & Crafts Show — Alden

Local and national artists on the shore of Torch Lake, with downtown sidewalk sales running the same days.

Labor Day Festivals in the Upper Peninsula

Bell’s Beer Copper Harbor Trails Fest — Copper Harbor

September 4–6, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Copper Harbor, Keweenaw County
The best outdoor event in Michigan this weekend. Cross-country and downhill mountain bike races, enduro, trail running, music, and beer at the far tip of the Keweenaw. All ages, and the setting alone justifies the eight-hour drive. The Copper Harbor Trails Club handles registration for each race separately.

Ontonagon Labor Day Festival — Ontonagon

September 4–6, 2026 (confirmed) · Downtown Ontonagon, Ontonagon County
An auto show, a children’s parade, live music, fireworks, a pancake breakfast, and the Labor Day parade itself. Ontonagon sits at the western edge of the Porcupine Mountains, which makes this a genuinely good excuse to get out there.

Boogie Fest Too — Rock

September 4–6, 2026 (confirmed) · 14069 County Line G Road, Rock, Delta County
A campground festival deep in the central UP with a costume contest, poker run, music, bonfires, and a campground parade. Boogie Fest Too sells camping and weekend passes together.

Arts Dockside — St. Ignace

September 5–6, 2026 (confirmed) · Huron Boardwalk, St. Ignace Public Marina, Mackinac County
The 49th annual, with close to 100 booths of handmade work strung along the waterfront, and a fundraiser for the St. Ignace Arts Council. Here’s the timing detail most roundups get wrong: Arts Dockside runs Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the Mackinac Bridge Walk is Monday morning. They don’t overlap. If you’re coming north for the walk and want the fair too, you need to be in St. Ignace by Sunday afternoon at the latest — plan on two nights, not one. The St. Ignace Arts Council runs the fair, and the city’s visitor listing carries parking and boardwalk detail.

Escanaba Labor Day Celebration — Escanaba

Labor Day weekend · Escanaba Municipal Docks, Delta County
A relaxed waterfront celebration on Little Bay de Noc, and the easier of Escanaba’s two Labor Day events to drop in on for an hour. Delta County’s tourism office posts the schedule once the music lineup is set.

U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Association Annual Show — Escanaba

September 4–7, 2026 (confirmed) · U.P. State Fairgrounds, 2401 12th Ave N, Escanaba, Delta County
Running since 1975, and genuinely unusual: working antique steam and gas engines, a restored Heritage Village of craft shops, a working sawmill, an agricultural museum, an antique auto show, and a large flea market. Four full days, and a good pairing with the Escanaba celebration across town. The U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Association confirms show dates each spring.

Marquette Area Blues Fest — no longer running

If you came here looking for this one, here’s the honest answer: the Marquette Area Blues Fest ended after its 20th festival over Labor Day weekend 2024. Organizers said plainly that rising costs, an aging volunteer base, and competition for that weekend in Marquette — the growing Marquette Marathon, the return of NMU students — had made it too hard to run the festival to their own standard, so they chose to end it on a high note rather than let it decline. A number of event calendars still list it as annual, which is why people keep driving up expecting it. The Marquette Area Blues Society is still very much active, running a quarterly concert series and regular events at the Peter White Public Library, so there’s usually blues in town — just not a three-day festival in Lower Harbor Park.

Do Michigan Labor Day festivals get cancelled?

Occasionally, and some end for good — the Marquette Area Blues Fest wrapped up permanently after 2024, and the Muskegon County Latino Festival is not running in 2026. Smaller festivals fold or skip years without much notice, and event calendars are slow to catch up. Check the organizer’s own site or social page within a week of the event before making the drive.
