What is better than a fresh, sweet peach on a hot August evening? Sitting on the front porch
with your feet up and a glass of sweet tea by your side and the sun setting over the hill. I don’t think anything can beat those moments.
While Michigan may not be known for peaches, it is home to many farms that are ready for Michiganders and tourists alike to take them home. Or, if you’re feeling impatient, eat them in the car. I know I would.

When to Pick A Peach in Michigan
Michigan u pick season starts in early July for some fruits, but the peach picking season gets underway a little later. Peach picking season is just starting, so don’t fret if you’re just getting to it. Most farms open early to mid-August and close in October.

You’ll find nine different varieties of peaches available for picking at this U-Pick orchard. All of the peaches are freestone, or cling-free.

Starting August 13th, you will want to make sure your weekend plans include peach picking at Fruit Acres Farm. With multiple different kinds of peaches to pick, try them all! Eat some as they are, can a few, or make peach cobbler. With peaches, the opportunities are endless, especially when you can buy them by the pound.
The Gary Crane U-Pick Farm

At The Gary Crane U-Pick Farm, not far from Lake Michigan, peach picking is in its prime. Open since the last week of July, I would say head on over as soon as you can as each peach variety is only available for picking for about a week. Even better, your peaches per pound will be 25 cents less than last year! What a great way to justify buying an extra pound.

After a nice morning at the beach, make sure to head over to Overhiser Orchards for your afternoon snack. With hundreds of acres, the diverse wildlife and scenery will not disappoint. You can even book a tour to see the whole thing!

The Shafer Farm LLC

A family owned farm for three generations, The Shafer Farm LLC is a great place to feel at home. Open August through October, there is plenty of time to plan your trip to Baroda and enjoy this quaint farm with high quality fruit. Picking peaches at the Shafer Farm means choosing from a wide variety, including the Red Haven, a popular Michigan peach.
Christofferson Farms

While it is a little further north, Christofferson Farms is worth the hike. While you’re there picking peaches, check out their many u-pick options! From plums to apricots, you can leave with a trunk full of fruit.

Last but not least, Moelker Orchards and Farm Market is what I would call, peachy keen. While they are not a u-pick farm, their peaches are precisely picked for peak ripeness. Try not to eat them all on the way home!

Blakes Orchard and Cider Mill

Blakes is summer fun land in southeast Michigan and it continues all the way through to the holiday season in December. From a petting zoo to a farm market to festivals and a cider tasting room, you’ll find a lot to do in addition to peach picking here.
